Pretending To Be Cozy

We pretended it was a rainy cold day. Complete with hot tea and blankets. The stifling heat would just need to wait outside while we snuggled for a bit. 

Out came the play dough and books and projects we’ve wanted to do. Hannah played with us for a bit before drifting off into dreamy nap land, which meant we didn’t have to stand guard over tiny pieces and electric outlets.

Ten Mondays: Labor

It was the Kiawah Marathon. Mile 22. Everything hurt. My stomach was in shreds. It took all my focus to take the next step. Move. That was all there was left to do. There was no crowd. It was silent and still and cold. There were no women anywhere near me. There were several men running the same pace through the empty streets. We were plodding. It was silent. We were in pain. I had an idea. They might be interested to know -- this feels like labor! So, the very one sided conversation began..."He guys, if you were ever wondering what labor feels like, this is it!!" For some reason, I was sure they would say, "No way. Tell me more." They didn't. So, I just shared a little bit about the pain that we were all sure to be experiencing at this point in the race. Now they could tell people they understood labor! Love Them. Feed Them. Talk To Them. The Rest Is Icing On The Cake.

We've been homeschooling for ten years. At LEAST once a week I think that homeschooling is the worst possible thing on the planet. I look at my kids and think, "I've got nothin'!" It is scary. It is hard. How many hundreds of times have I called my extremely patient husband and yelled, literally screamed into the phone, "I CAN'T DO THIS!" There was a day, in the middle of a lesson that wasn't going well at all, that I walked out the back door, walked to the pool, jumped in fully clothed and yelled as loud as I could under the water. I got back out of the pool, calmly walked inside, changed my clothes and continued with the day feeling much relieved. George, my husband and biggest cheerleader - also a major part of our homeschooling life, is diligent to walk me off the cliff of homeschool despair. Hannah Moriah Boggs

Hannah Moriah Boggs joined us on December 30 at 12:37. It was a beautiful, simple, easy birth. I was over ready and ready to induce and afraid to induce. An hour before we were to call and make sure we could come in for an induction, labor started. It didn’t take long from there. George walked and talked me through contractions up and down the hill in front of our house. We decided to rest a minute and walk again. And then it was time to head to the hospital. We were in a room at 9. Walked laps around the nurses station a couple of time and by noon, we were ready. Our fourth surprise. And what a surprise. Hannah was suddenly here. A girl! We didn’t count on it. We didn’t even consider it and here she was with dark black hair. She was 9 lbs 6 oz and 21 inches long. She is strong and sweet. Her eyes shine and stare. She.
